National Honor Societies that are focused around specific subjects: Rho Kappa, the social studies honor society, and Quill and Scroll, the journalism honor society, are viewed at a much higher caliber than the standard National Honor Society, according to some students. Senior, Lucas Frye pointed out that certain groups actually go on trips or events pertaining to their subjects. “Rho Kappa actually does stuff,” spoke Frye. But NHS President Norman Xiong contends that three of the eight merits have to be service orientated, “I think aside from resumes, people do it because they want to give back to the community, they want to serve other, and they just want to feel a sense of service.”
