At approximately 10 am today, an Anne Arundel County Volunteer Fire Department dispatched a truck to Severna Park High School to investigate a small smoke related incident. According to the buzz among teachers, who ushered the entire student body outside of the buildings, convening around the outskirts of campus, this was no monthly fire drill. After a couple minutes, the Talon staff, who huddled outside the front entrance, watched fire trucks roll into our front bus loop. Three firefighters entered the building as officer Schwartz and Mr. Bathras stood by the front entrance to the school. Soon after they went in to investigate, the firefighters emerged, and students and staff were allowed to re-enter the building. According to Officer Schwartz, who the Talon spoke with directly following the incident, there was no real fire on campus today. Fumes from a lab assignment, reportedly involving the burning of sugar on a hot plate, set off the smoke detectors in a science lab this morning, which is what caused the alarms to sound. Without too much disruption, the day has resumed to normal proceedings, and luckily, this was just on Falcon False Alarm.
