When/why did you decide to start modeling?
S: I started in August in 2014 because my aunt was a model when she was younger and I thought it would be fun thing to do and hopefully make some money at the same time. (I ended up being able to buy myself a car this past summer.)
What is the best part of your job?
S: The best part is probably all the people I get to meet that I normally wouldn’t have the chance to. I’ve met people from different countries and have made friends that I am able to work regularly with and it’s awesome to kind of root for each other when someone books a big shoot or something. Like a friend of mine got booked for nyfw too for a different show and it’s cool to see how we’ve grown together since we started around the same time.
What did you do when you found out you would be modeling in NYSFW?
S: When I found out about the job I was doing homework and my mom just started screaming and I walked in and she was crying and just showed me a message from my agent saying that I booked the show. I was shocked because I had the casting earlier that day and I really wasn’t expecting it. It was such an incredible moment. I couldn’t believe all of my hard work had paid off in such a big way.
What are you most excited for?
S: I’m most excited for the experience of NYSFW as a whole. It’s such a big event in the fashion industry and being able to being able to be a part of that is just surreal to me.
Who will you be modeling for?
S: I’ll be walking for Bradelis New York.
Can you give a brief description of your day at NYSFW?
S: We left my house around ten and got to the city around one-thirty. I didn’t have to be there until two-thirty so we just drove around the city for a bit until it was time to go. After I got to Gotham Hall, we went downstairs where all of the designers were prepping their shows. The other girls and I got our hair and make-up done until around five. Then we went to our little section backstage and put on the clothes and practiced a bit. We took some pictures and then it was show time!
What was the best part of the day?
S: The best part was probably the feeling right after stepping off the runway knowing I did my best and most importantly, That I didn’t trip.
Did you meet anyone famous there?
S: I saw Madeline Stuart getting ready which was awesome considering she’s taking the modeling world by storm and demolishing stereotypes being the first professional model with down syndrome.
Were you nervous for the runway?
S: I was really nervous before the show started but once it did, the nerves faded a bit.
How would you describe your overall experience? Was it everything you’d hoped it would be?
S: The overall experience was great. It was so much fun. It definitely everything I hoped it would be and more!
