Junior Kody Milton has been playing baseball for the majority of his life and has been working hard to perfect his skills since he was six. “I started playing baseball because I grew up around the sport and have always loved it,” said Milton. When he began baseball at a young age, he played for the Green Hornets. Now, he plays for the Evoshield Canes when he is not playing for SPHS. Throughout the spring, Milton focuses on playing ball for the school and winning county, regional and state titles. In the off-season, which occurs during summer and fall, Milton plays for the Evoshield Canes, a travel team.
Being an outstanding baseball player is in the Milton bloodline; “My inspiration to play baseball is my dad, he played 11 years in the MLB (major league baseball),” said Milton. Kody’s dad, Eric Milton was drafted 20th overall in the 1996 draft by the New York Yankees first round. He was an excellent pitcher in the MLB. In 2001 he was an American League All Star, and even threw a no-hitter for the Minnesota Twins in 1999. Clearly Kody has big shoes to fill as a high school athlete, college athlete, and aspires to be a professional athlete like his dad.
Following his dad’s footsteps, Milton has committed to the University of Maryland. “I committed in March of 2016 because I have always dreamed of playing there,” said Milton. The University of Maryland is a top 25 baseball program and are currently in 22nd place in the country for college baseball with a 28-11 record.
Being a falcon star is what Milton has his mind on right now, “It is an honor to be a falcon athlete, it is something I will always remember,” said Milton. Severna Park is extremely well recognized for being a beyond amazing sports school with many state titles, baseball currently has three state championships. “As a falcon athlete, you are held at a higher standard than most people. All the eyes are on you, therefore athletes at Severna Park have a lot of pressure on them to perform and to do what they are supposed to,” said Milton.
