A Halloween of Surprise
The Impact of COVID-19 on Trick-or-Treaters
October 30, 2020
Strange to think that controversy surrounds the topic of trick-or-treating, but in the year of COVID-19, the unexpected has become the expected. What shall parents do? What will be done so that the children are safe? Since COVID-19 certainly has become a monster of horrors.
Here are tips on how to be safe when trick-or-treating:
- Have face coverings over costume masks
- Bring alcohol-based hand sanitizer
- Candy should be given out using a scoop or tongs
- Individually wrapped goodie bags are recommended
- Avoid parties and party games
- Do not share masks or any part of your costume
- And of course, WASH YOUR HANDS before you eat candy
So don’t worry, our county has not banned trick-or-treating. However, a mask is required at all times. Please make sure that you are following precautions this halloween, but don’t forget to also have fun.
Governor Larry Hogan also sent out messages through a subscription newsletter to remind Marylanders to follow CDC guidelines and to wear a mask.

Nice summing up of the precautions necessary at this time – hope the candy makes up for it a little bit – but nothing like running through the streets on a moonllit night, racing from house to house – let’s do that in 2021! Thanks, Nick!
