When sophomore Rachel Spilker was little she wanted to become a lacrosse player because her older siblings are very competitive and skilled at lacrosse. When she was four years old, she joined the green hornet’s lacrosse organization, and now she plays for Maryland United Lacrosse Club. Maryland United has taught Spilker many things, and is the reason she is committed. Lacrosse is something that Spilker is proficient in, and in two years she will be playing lacrosse at Penn State University.

    “My older siblings both play lacrosse and it is cool to follow in their footsteps,” said Spilker. Growing up in a lacrosse environment, this inspired her to become more like her siblings and even to follow their footsteps by playing in college. Her older brother Logan now plays at Army and her older sister Erika plays at Penn State.

    “I enjoy being a part of something special like lacrosse at Severna Park High, it is cool to be part of the traditions and values,” said Spilker. Playing lacrosse at Maryland United is a full time commitment. Spilker plays summer lacrosse with Maryland United at tournaments and practices throughout the year with different clinics and tournaments.

    “I am committed to Penn State University in Pennsylvania,” said Spilker. The Penn State Lions are well known for women’s lacrosse, coached by Missy Doherty, who led the team to being conference champions in 2015 for the big ten tournament, and helping them compete successfully.  

As a sophomore, Spilker looks forward to playing for the SPHS lacrosse team for two more reasons.“It’s really fun to be a part of the lacrosse team, because I love lacrosse and I love my team,” said Spilker.
