St. Patrick’s Day in Annapolis

Students explore Irish community traditions in Annapolis and the surrounding areas

The Annapolis and Severna Park communities are gearing up for a complete schedule of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, reviving old favorites and introducing new activities for families, parade attendees, and anyone who wants to experience Irish heritage. From downtown Annapolis to Ritchie Highway, the region is preparing for a weekend of music, dancing, eating, and lots of green.

The highlight of the year is the Annapolis St. Patrick’s Parade, which is back on Sunday, March 8, 2026, with an entirely new route. The parade will start on West Street at Amos Garrett Boulevard and proceed downtown, looping around Church Circle before turning down Northwest Street to Calvert Street and St. John’s Street. The city administration is anticipating huge turnouts as the parade marks the beginning of Annapolis’ spring festival season.

The festivities begin even earlier with the 11th Annual St. Patrick’s Hooley on Saturday, March 7, at the Naval Academy Alumni Center. The Hooley is the official kick-off party for parade weekend, featuring live Irish music, traditional Irish food, and tributes to past and present Grand Marshals. The Hooley is famous for its energetic vibe and strong community attendance.

Severna Park has its own schedule of St. Paddy’s events. Brian Boru Irish Restaurant & Pub on Ritchie Highway will feature its annual Guinness etching ceremony on March 10 at 6 p.m., followed by all-day entertainment on March 17, which includes performances by the O’Riain Academy Irish Dancers and live music all day long. The pub is famous for being one of the most energetic St. Patrick’s Day locations in the area, attracting community members for its food, drinks, and non-stop celebration.

Families seeking something fun for kids can attend the Shamrock Paint & Play event on March 13 at Play Street Museum in Severna Park. Children aged 2-12 can paint shamrock pottery, participate in rainbow activities, and play at the museum. This event combines art and St. Patrick’s Day fun, making it a great activity for younger children.

Thanks to parades, parties, and family events throughout the week, the Annapolis-Severna Park region is gearing up for what promises to be one of the most festive St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in years. Whether it’s watching dancers, indulging in Irish cuisine, or just being part of the crowd in downtown Annapolis, there’s something for everyone.
