Thirty-four extensive years. That’s how long it’s been since fans of the Washington Commanders have even thought about a Superbowl win, and the wait just got a little longer.
For many years, Commanders fans have waited for a successful season. This year they finally got one. After receiving rookie quarterback, Jayden Daniels, the team has seemingly turned everything around. From a 4-13 record to a 12-5 record, fans are ecstatic with the way the Commanders have looked this year.
“Pretty Surprised” the reaction of Mr. Moskowitz and many more Washington and NFL fans. How did a team with zero success in the past three decades surprise football fans across America? Well, first they drafted their quarterback with the 2nd overall pick. Jayden Daniels, the savior of the Washington franchise. After booting their old owner Dan Snyder and cleaning out the whole coaching staff, they looked like a slightly better team than the year before. When Coach Rogers was asked what he thought was the biggest contributor to their success, he commented this exact opinion. Going into detail about the “whole organization effort” of this success. If the Commanders had drafted Daniels with the coaching staff from 2022 or 2023 he likely wouldn’t have had the same success that he had this year.
Things are looking really bright for the future of the Commanders. When Coach Rogers was asked about addressing the problems on the team he strongly thought that they “need to address the [problems in the] secondary.” Lots of people would agree with him. They were ranked at 31st in the NFL out of the 32 teams according to Sharp Football Analysis. They have continuously faced this problem year after year unfortunately, which was the biggest reason why they eventually fell short of the Superbowl. Mr. Moskowitz had a good take as well thinking that drafting a “target” would help Daniels “grow into that leadership role.” By giving Daniels more options he would grow more confident and better as a player.
Another thing all Washington fans are hoping for is for sure a Superbowl. But they need to capitalize on the opportunity now. Coach Rogers put it nicely saying, “we’re a couple of pieces away… [but] they really gotta capitalize while Jayden Daniels is on that rookie contract.” This is correct if the Commanders wait to long to make a push for the Superbowl they may never get it. Once Daniels gets off his rookie contract they will likely resign him, but he will cost a whole lot more than he did on his rookie contract. If they can use their money wisely now to get some key players for Daniels it would be a huge help.
All in all, the future looks bright. After so much adversity and hopeful wishing, Commanders fans can rejoice now knowing that things are looking good.
