Hey there, Talon readers! The Love Letter is back. I hope you all are getting excited for Homecoming season! I know I certainly am. However, Homecoming comes with its own set of not-so-lovely problems. I’ll try my best to answer the pressing predicaments that seem to plague us.
How do I ask my crush to Homecoming?
When you think of asking people to Homecoming, your mind probably jumps to the extravagant displays of affection with big signs and bigger smiles. It can feel daunting to match the standards that people tend to push. I have a friend who was freaking out because he couldn’t think of a good Taylor Swift pun to put on his sign. Well, I have good news for him, he might not have to go through all this stress.
No two relationships are the same. This is an important idea to consider when you’re trying to ask someone out or do something special for someone. Everyone has different tastes, so consider carefully before you buy your arts and crafts supplies. Maybe the person you’re going to ask doesn’t need a sign. If you’re going to ask someone, maybe a humble conversation in the hallway is all you and this wonderful person need. Sometimes, less is more. Although, for some relationships, more is more!
My friend with the Taylor Swift sign has a more interesting case than he might think. See, the girl he’s asking is a full-fledged Swiftie. If there’s one thing you can’t underestimate, it’s Taylor Swift fans. They live and die to serve their overlord. They pay fealty to Taylor Swift in the form of playlists of her music titled, “hot girl summer??.” Swifties want to see dedication that matches their own. A relationship with a Swiftie is likely to be a more-is-more kind of deal. So, in reality, my Swiftie-loving friend might need to work a bit harder for this relationship than he thought. The trick to asking your crush to HOCO will always be asking in a manner that is appropriate to your relationship. So, as you go about the process, make sure your words are sincere and your Taylor Swift shrines are polished.
