The Presidential debate is a large part of many voters’ analysis on who would make a better leader for the country. Before the debate even began, vice-president Harris walked over to shake the hand of Donald Trump, the former republican president. Harris introduced herself to Trump and the 90 minute debate then began. She immediately went for Trump as soon as the debate began. Harris called out Trump for his tariffs creating a sales tax on the middle class citizens and blamed him for the Capital Riot on Jan. 6th, 2021.
Harris also mentioned how he was “fired by 81 million people,” related to the margin that Donald Trump lost to Joe Biden during the 2020 election.
Former President Trump came back blaming immigrants for causing the destruction of “the fabric of our country.” Trump also talked about the current situation with the Biden-Harris organization.
“She is Biden,” Trump said.
Trump also added that the country has had “the worst inflation we’ve ever had.” “A horrible economy because inflation has made it so bad. And she can’t get away with that.”
Trump also stated how Harris was moving away from more progressive positions she had originally taken during the 2020 election. Harris clapped back and put off a list of racial controversies that Trump had been a part of. Harris and Trump also took positions on abortion and it was clear that Harris took the side of defending abortion rights.
“The government, and Donald Trump, certainly should not be telling a woman what to do with her body,” Harris stated. The two also took sides on where they stand with the Israel-Gaza war.
Doanld Trump stated that “if she is president Israel will not exist two years from now.” Trump had claimed that Harris “hates Israel” and also added, “I’ve been pretty good at predictions. I hope I’m wrong about that one.”
“What we know is that this war must end, it must end immediately. And the way it will end is we need a cease-fire deal and we need the hostages out,” said Harris. She was stating that she thought that Israel deserves the right to protect themselves and says she supports Israel.
To close out the debate, superstar Taylor Swift put a post on Instagram calling Harris a “gifted leader,” and also stated she will be voting for Kamala Harris. With her large following of young women this could influence some voters to vote for Harris.
So, who won the debate? In my opinion there was no real clear cut winner. Harris and Trump equally went back and forth arguing their points to attempt to throw the other off the radar. However, it seems they are both still equally considered to be president in this race.
