School spirit will be up and excitement will be high for the schools annual Pep Rally, Friday Sept. 27, in the main gym due to pending rain. Sports teams and a few student participants will perform for the rest of the student body and faculty, in preparation for the homecoming game later that night, as well as homecoming itself the following day. Leading up to the events of the season, a few students were asked what differences they want to see for present and future Pep Rallies.
Senior varsity cheerleader Molly Egolf, described how she prefers Pep Rally to be in the gym rather than the football field because, “it makes you closer to all the students.”
Some are conflicted as to whether they prefer this event to be outside or inside, considering the football field gives the audience more space, but provides a more zoomed out view of the performers, and the event is mostly directed towards the student athletes on the field. Whereas, the gym gives you a better view of the performers, allows most to hear better, and is easier to allow students to be involved, yet it’s more loud and clustered together.
Junior varsity cheerleader Lilly Nagy describes how she would like to see more crowd participation and “good music” that all can hear, because it makes the event more fun for all.
However, regardless of where the event is held, Pep Rally is beloved by many and continues to be a relevant tradition that students and staff seem to look forward to.
“I think it is an important tradition to continue because it’s like a big event that brings all the people in the school together and kind of lets everybody get excited for the dance and like encourages everybody to go so everybody can just like have a fun time.”, junior varsity football player Matthew Williams said.
As students grow up there are very few things they will likely remember from their high school days, yet Pep Rally is an opportunity to make those memories that can only be associated with high school and adolescence.
“I think it’s a good tradition to continue because it brings people together, it’s fun, and it’s something that people can kind of remember over the course of their lifetime” SGA adviser organizer Ms. Bowman said.
