The boys varsity basketball team won 14 out of their 23 games. Led by head coach Pete Young, they scored over 1,000 points overall.
The team has a roster of 14 players, four seniors, seven juniors, two sophomores and a freshman. At the beginning of the season, the team didn’t really know each other too well, but as the season went on, the team got closer together. Junior Garrett Moden said, “At the beginning of the year I felt we weren’t always together as a team not doing well but like towards the end of the year we just started clicking and everybody was working well together.”
Moden is a Junior that has played basketball for the high school since he was a freshman.
The team’s highest scoring game was at Chesapeake Science Point, where they destroyed their opponents 70-16. However, that was not their best game. At the beginning of the season, they lost to Broadneck at home, but it was a close game. As the season went on, the team got better, and when the time came to play them two months later, they went to Broadneck and beat them on their home turf.
Being the basketball team, they played 23 games over less than 10 weeks, so they were bound to play back to back games. This happened multiple times, but they still played well. “Back to back days you don’t get a lot of prep time to worry about opponents you just go out there and play” Moden said.
Near the end of their season, they went on a five game win streak against Severn Run, Broadneck, Crofton, Chesapeake Science Point, and Chesapeake. During their streak, they scored over 250 points, making them feel unstoppable.
