The Severna Park Falcons football team celebrated a big win on Friday night with a 17–14 victory over the Old Mill Patriots in a nail-biting home game. The Falcons played dynamic and vibrant throughout the game in order to seize a closely contested win that ended Old Mill’s string of flawless wins.
The contest was close early, with the two teams trading touchdowns throughout the first half. Severna Park was able to gain momentum before the half but struggled to sustain it. Senior quarterback Blake Howell, a transfer from Archbishop Spalding High School, kept the offense rolling with smart passes and contributed a touchdown and 81 rushing yards. Cole Cavanaugh also helped carry the o-line with two catches for 22 yards and a touchdown. The Falcons offense used good teamwork and clock management to stay in front late in the game.
Defensively, the Falcons were tough and persistent. They violated Old Mill’s offense all night and held the Patriots to their lowest scoring game of their season so far. Defensively, senior linebacker Kamari Brown recorded 10 tackles and a sack, and senior defensive end Noah Croghan added 4 tackles, 3 sacks, and a forced fumble. With several key plays and stops in the second half, it was able to help keep the Falcons ahead of the game and send home the Old Mill Patriots with their first loss of the season.
Severna Park moved up to 4–2 and their fifth consecutive home win with the victory placing 3rd in the region. The Falcons have gained an excellent reputation for defending their home grounds and playing confidently. Old Mill, now 5–1, experienced their first loss of the season but was still one of the county’s best. Severna Park will seek to carry the momentum into next week’s game as it continues to climb in the rankings.
