Breaking school records and placing first in her events, sophomore Emily Knight has been gaining success throughout the indoor track season. Knight first began running during outdoor track season of her freshman year and has been working hard at the sport ever since. Having the rank of top female sprinter in the school, Knight also holds the school record for the 300-meter dash and the 500-meter dash. Her record times include running 300 meters in 42.15 seconds, and completing the 500-meter dash in one minute and 19.3 seconds.
Although Knight is a natural runner, the work she puts in during practice helps her achieve her goals. “I love knowing that the workouts I have to do have paid off when my times get better,” said Knight. To remain in top shape, Knight practices five days a week for up to two hours.
Balancing academics, a social life and sleep is a struggle Knight faces year-round. “School and sports mostly take up my life so sometimes it’s hard for me to get a lot of sleep and fit in time to spend with my friends,” said Knight. Time-management skills are essential to the multi-sport athlete in order to keep up with her fast-paced life. “School and sports are my priorities, and then I fit in the fun stuff,” said Knight.
Being part of a team has taught Knight numerous life lessons and helped her build long-lasting relationships with her teammates. “I’ve been taught the importance of teamwork as a life skill and how important it is to form strong friendships by being on these teams,” said Knight. She revealed that her favorite part of running track is getting first place in her events. “Winning races is the best feeling,” said Knight. As for the future, the talented runner has not yet decided between running track, playing soccer, or not playing a sport in college.
