On April 21, the Key Club will be giving back to the community with an event organized two years ago by Key Club Vice President, junior Anna Roros.

The annual Paint Night is a fun-filled night for about 30 kids with activities including painting with a guest artist from the community. Each year, a specific painting for the kids to complete is chosen. “They paint that specific picture by following the artist as well as receiving dinner, playing games and having a dance party at the end,” Roros said. Roros is also the main student coordinator for the event. “Ms. Stahl and I started it two years ago and it is one of our biggest Key Club events,” Roros said.

“They enjoy the painting and we allow them to put their own twists on things and many of the children give it to their parents as gifts, like for mother’s day coming up. It’s fun for them to get out of the house and also gives parents an opportunity to leave them with us and have some time to themselves,” Roros said.

Not only are the members of Key Club volunteering their time for the kids. The money raised from this event is also going to a four-year-old girl in the community just diagnosed with leukemia. “We are going to help pay for her chemotherapy,” Roros said, “We are expected to raise around 800 dollars for her. In years past we have given our money to the Eliminate Project which funds bringing shots to children who are in developing countries and face maternal neonatal tetanus.”

“We did it because we want to give back to a good cause while having fun and getting children involved. It’s mostly for elementary aged children but we usually have some four-year-olds show up. It’s also open to the special needs department at our school to join us.”

Parents can sign their children up for this charitable event here. Registration costs $25 per student and space is limited.
