School is back in session and that means that our favorite people from the class of 2017 are off to college.  If you’re like me, you miss the simple gesture of a certain friend waving to you as you walk to class. To let them know that you miss them, you might want to send them an earnest gift.  If you are looking for inspiration, you came to the right place. This package in particular is labelled “Something out of the blue” so for starters all items should be a shade of blue to fit the pun. Here is what you will need but you can personalize it to whomever you are sending this package to:

  1. Snacks with blue packaging

I decided to get tortilla chips, Oreos and a Clif Bar.

  1. Decorative dorm accessories

I purchased a small throw blanket and a candle.

  1. Practical items

Such as makeup wipes, pens and chapstick.

  1. A water bottle.  (I purchased a reusable Shake & Go bottle so she can easily make tea and protein shakes. I got a recyclable bottle as well.)
  1. An extra pun item.

I purchased Extra gum and wrote a note saying “you’re extraordinary, you’ll do great things in college.” Microwavable food. I chose a microwavable cake, but you could always send stuff like macaroni and cheese or oatmeal.

  1. A heartfelt card.

This is self-explanatory, but write a card letting them know how much you care about them and how much you miss them.

If your friend went out of state then you could always get them specific stuff from your home state. Such as Old Bay if you’re from Maryland. Any gift from the heart should surely make their day because it is something out of the blue.

Here is a conglomeration of things to get for your friends that go with the pun “Something out of the Blue.” Photos by Alena Carhart.
