On March 6, twenty-two students from SPHS, chaperoned by Ms.Hill and Ms.Fitzgerald, attended LitCon at Loyola University Baltimore. Litcon is an annual literary convention for AACPS and Baltimore City highschools focused on young adult literature.
Students were provided with free books, swag bags, transportation, and lunch. After a presentation by New York Times best selling author Nic Stone, students attended breakout sessions of their choosing. These sessions included writing workshops, makerspace activities, trivia, escape rooms, and more. Students also had the opportunity to meet authors Ryan La Sala, Lizzy Mason, Ashley Woodfolk, and Wendy Xu
9th grader Paige Williams said, ¨I have been enjoying it so much. I loved talking to everybody and both my workshops. I loved playing family feud, and i’m meeting a bunch of new people.¨
One of the highlights of Litcon was the free books, many of them written by attending authors. Sydney Oakley, A 9th grade student at SPHS, said, ¨it’s cool to see all these authors who followed their dreams and wrote all these amazing books…I love free books, everythings better when it’s free!¨
LitCon is an amazing opportunity for students interested in reading or writing. If you weren’t able to attend this year, be sure to sign up for LitCon vol.8 in 2026.
