French pastries galore, this past Tuesday was a falcon block to remember in room 267. Madame Auchincloss and the French student officers hosted a bake sale featuring croissants, apple tarts, pie, cookies, cake, macarons, and so much more, in order to help fund field trips for French classes this year. Students plan on taking a bus to the Nemore Estate in Delaware this December, a Louis XVI-style chateau where they will experience a winter wonderland of Christmas lights, French architecture, and 100-acre gardens. While the parent teacher association helped Auchincloss by allocating 200 dollars to French funds, the bus ride alone would’ve cost students 50-60 dollars each to go on this trip. However, after the bake sale, bus fare will now be significantly less, and the trip will be more equitable for all students to share in the French culture.
Students lined the foreign language hall, awaiting the delicious spread of desserts covering the French room. In fact, there were so many options available that the bake sale became a two day extravaganza, with leftovers being sold during blue block on October 29th.
Auchincloss described the experience as “a huge success”, which she looks forward to recreating later in the year. It’s suspected that these bake sales will become an annual event for French classes, so if you enjoyed the French cuisine, mark your calendars for this time next year. Sooner than that, Auchincloss also hopes to recreate this occasion in February, for a chocolate focused Valentines Day bake sale.
