Taylor Swift released her new album “The Life of a Showgirl” on October 3rd this year. From the time she announced the release over the summer on a podcast, “New Heights,” there has been plenty of anticipation.
Immediately after the release, the anticipation turned into a mix between outstanding reviews and backlash. Amid the first week of the album release, people have shared their opinions across social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram and Facebook. While many critics adore the fun, quirky side of it, others disagree.
“I honestly just believe every one of her songs sounds exactly the same,” one Facebook user wrote under entertainment tonight’s post on the album.
Swift’s last couple albums, including, The Tortured Poets Department, Midnights, Evermore and Folklore, portrayed poetic lyrics. Additionally, they depicted how painfully raw life can be between heartbreak and self-reflection. Her lyrics are something that makes her a unique artist. The Life of a Showgirl however, is not as lyrically involved as her albums before. This has led to conversation over if the album compares to the past ones. However, there are still many people who appreciate the album and its fun energy.
“I think it’s a creative album that captures the life of someone who’s constantly on stage,” Junior at Severna Park High School, Ava Mallik said.
