Do you like to ski or snowboard and participate in winter sport activities? If so, there are many places within a four hour drive to visit for a day visit or maybe even a long weekend away. If you’re looking for something more intense than that, there are many opportunities and resorts around the country, or even the world, with outstanding mountains and amazing slopes that are definitely worth the trip to visit. The best months out of the year to participate in these activities are January and February because the prime winter season has the overall best conditions.

Some of the best local resorts are Wisp, Liberty and Severn Springs. Some of the bigger, most known resorts out west in Colorado consist of Breckenridge, Steamboat, Telluride and Vail. If you’re not interested in learning to ski and snowboard, these resorts offer other activities you can participate in that are just as fun. If you’re just along for the ride so that your family can enjoy the cold, most lodges have restaurants you can eat and spend time in while enjoying some nice warm hot chocolate.  For most local resorts within a couple hour drive of us, the tickets are going to be within $80-130 depending on where you go, the conditions on the mountains and the day of the week you decide to go. 

Another way you could go about getting your tickets for the season is the epic pass. A local epic pass for the 2025-2026 season is around $790 and the full adult epic pass is around $1,050. Prices for those usually go up after the initial launch, so the earlier you buy them, the cheaper they should be. Other then just cheaper skiing tickets, the epic pass has many perks, including discounted lift tickets for friends and family and 20% off food in lodges and rentals.
