After four years of production, the Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, was released on April 24, 2026. With a running time of 2 hours and 10 minutes, this biopic has outstanding reviews within the first month of its release. Michael Jackson was played by his real life Nephew, Jaafar Jackson, which was a great way to carry his legacy.
The film moves throughout Jackson’s early life and rise to stardom. It starts out with his brothers and their journey in the Jackson 5. His father Joseph Jackson, played by Colman Domingo was very convincing as an authoritarian father. His performance was compelling and made me really feel his fury through the screen.
The other sibling besides the Jackson 5 portrayed in the movie was La Toya. Played by Jessica Sula, she was only in a few scenes. There are many rumors circulating about why Janet Jackson chose not to be pictured in the film. Many of them including that she believed it was not an accurate depiction of her family.
While much discourse has spread, the movie has more good reviews coming from the audience rather than the critical reception and reviews. The box office has done great and has made over 400 million dollars just 10 days after its release. This was not surprising as the movie does a fantastic job at preserving his legacy.
The rest of the movie follows through Jackson’s life with fame and fortune and how he handles it. His many pets including bubbles (chimpanzee) and a giraffe were additionally depicted in the film. It was really beautiful how Jackson was illustrated as the kind, and loving artist he was known as being.
The movie ended with a screen that read: “His story continues,” which conveyed the message that there may possibly be a second movie. Many fans have decided that a second movie would be great, considering the end was right in the midst of his career. In reality, there was much more controversy surrounding Jackson later in his life.
In the end, The Michael Jackson biopic was great at representing Jackson, his family and his career through the ups and downs. The film was a phenomenal watch and I would recommend it to anyone interested.
