High school students are required to take the state tests which are the MISA, MCAP English 10, MCAP Government and MCAP Algebra 1. There is also a SAT for juniors in high school. State testing takes place in May and the SAT takes place anytime in the fourth quarter which is April-June but it generally takes place in April. Testing happens all over the state of Maryland and it is meant to see if you learned anything and if you are capable of moving on to the next class. The SAT is meant to see your knowledge throughout high school and for colleges to see where you are at.
Many kids leave after the state and SAT test but that is their choice to leave not because the teachers let them. “I do think we should be able to leave after the SAT and state testing because, one, it’s a very mentally and physically challenging test, and, I think we should be able to go home, you know, rest a little bit, relax after a very stressful test” Kayden Manuel said.
The tests can be very tiring but how do students really feel after the test is the real question. “I am very tired after testing and it is very hard for me to focus in classes after because i was sitting in a quiet class looking at a screen for three hours” Manuel said.
If you could make it an excused absence to leave after testing, would you and why? “I would make it an excused absence to leave because most people are just mentally drained after testing for three hours and most are also physically tired from sitting down. Also personally I just want to go home and not sit in school anymore because lowkey if I stay im not gonna pay attention” Manuel said.
Although there are many people that do go home after testing there are still a few that may have to stay or want to stay because their teacher said there will be work and that may be stressful or hard for the student because of the lack of focus after testing. “I do believe it is indubitably difficult to focus and hard to stay on track after testing because after all that thinking during the test my brain is strained and i just do not want to be here” Manuel said.
How do you feel that some teachers still give lots of work after testing? “I feel that after a test it’s not very ethical to put a lot of work on a student especially after what we just did and I feel mad when teachers do that because it is very selfish of them and they take their job too seriously” Manuel said.
