This year, 2026, the United States celebrates its 250th birthday. To celebrate the country’s milestone, the government has decided to create a national competition for high school students to participate in. This competition will be a civics assessment that will test students’ knowledge of the American revolution and its founding principles. According to the competition’s official website, www.presidential1776award.com, the contest was launched by the Department of Education and features a $250,000 scholarship pool. The registration began on February 1st, and ends on February 21st, with the test running from the 22nd to 28th. The test will start off in an online round which claims to be the “Impossible Civics Test,” dubbed by the Department of Education. Subsequent rounds have not been revealed as to exactly what will be on the test. Throughout the rounds, the pool of testers will get smaller and smaller until the final round which takes place in Washington D.C. The winner will win a scholarship of $150,000. Second place will win $50,000 and third will win $25,000. To compete, students must register for the test by the 21st, no later.
