On April 17 and 18, the SkillUSA chapter from Severna Park High School headed to Maryland State Skills Leadership Conference in Westminister, Maryland. The team made placements across multiple categories and competitions at the two day event. Overall, the chapter won 17 gold medals, four bronze medals and five honorable mentions.
Students will be representing Maryland at the National Qualifiers June 1-6 in Atlanta, Georgia include:
- Opening and Closing Ceremonies: Stephen Agboli, Meredith Campion, Lakshmi Davra, Khalil Baber, Haley Elfbein, Harper Priem, Michael Pastine and Sammi Saeed
- American Spirit: Candace Williams, Scarlett Wissel and Sophia Leschishin
- Career Pathways: Business: Jackson DuPee, Tiiu Nomm and Rome Jones
- Community Action: Parker Carroll, Nina MacRobbie and Minnie the Doodle
In addition to these competition results, junior Michael Pastine was elected by delegates from across the state to serve as a SkillsUSA Maryland State Officer. The SPHS chapter was also recognized at the state level, earning the Chapter of Excellence Award and being named a Silver Medalist for Outstanding Chapter—a reflection of the hard work, service, and impact students have made throughout the year.
